Committed To Know Him

Reading Plan

Join Brainerd Baptist Church this year as we read through the New Testament in 2024! We believe that investing a few minutes each day reading God’s Word will change your life this year. Anyone can take part! The Bible Project NT plan includes a short cartoon video summary before each new book of the Bible - perfect for the whole family.

We also believe that Bible reading is better TOGETHER. Join Brainerd’s pastors and ministry leaders in committing to read through the NT with a few friends this year. Any habit is easier to maintain with the support and encouragement of others along the way.

Scripture Memory

When the storms of life hit or temptation comes our way, what do we do? This is where Scripture memory is invaluable! By God’s grace, believers can draw spiritual encouragement from Scriptures they have committed to memory. What a blessing! Commit to grow in this area by memorizing one verse a week this year using this PDF from Fighter Verses.

Prayer Framework

Have you ever wondered what the Bible says about prayer? Consider this simple acrostic from ligonier.org that serves as a simple, biblical framework for our prayer. Each letter of the acrostic functions as a pillar of prayer time and gives priority to what we should be praying.

A-doration
C-onfession
T-hanksgiving
S-upplication

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray in Matthew 6:5-18, His model prayer began with adoration (or praise). “Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy.” It’s amazing how many of the psalms are dedicated solely to adoration. When we begin our prayer by praising God, we remind ourselves of our dependence on Him and that His will takes priority over our will. “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

After adoration comes confession. We recognize God’s holiness and our sinfulness. “Forgive us our debts...” 1 John 1:9 gives us this promise, “If we confess our sings, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God’s grace toward us, will also lead us to have grace on others, “...as we also have forgiven our debtors.”

Thanksgiving should be a natural outpouring of forgiveness and provi- sion. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 118:1).

Finally, after adoring our God, confessing our sins, and giving thanks to Him, we lay our petitions before the Lord in the act of supplication. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting your cares on Him, because He cares about you” (1 Peter 5:6-7). Jesus said it this way in the model prayer, “Give us today our daily bread.”

We hope this prayer framework gives you some helpful prompts for your prayer life! This year, as you bring requests to God, we’d love to encourage you to pray specifically for missionaries taking the Gospel to those most in need.
